Book Launch

On March 9th, SHaME will be celebrating the release of Emily Hunt’s new book, We Need to Talk: The Truth about Sexual Violence and My Fight for Justice, published by Mardle Books. Emily will be joined by a panel of speakers, including Alexandra Topping of The Guardian, barrister Dr Charlotte Proudman and SHaME’s Emma Yapp, for a conversation on the fault lines of a system and a society that is failing rape victims.

SHaME is collaborating with the V&A and Photoworks to create a programme of events in response to artist Laia Abril’s new exhibition at the Copeland Gallery, A History of Misogyny, Chapter Two: On Rape and Institutional Failure.

On October 7th, SHaME will be celebrating the release of Professor Joanna Bourke’s new book, Disgrace: Global Reflections on Sexual Violence, published by Reaktion Books. Joanna will be joined by Jude Kelly CBE, Marai Larasi, Dr Rhea Sookdeosingh, and Maisha Sumah in a conversation between artists, activists and academics on boundary-crossing global approaches to creating a rape free world.

SHaME is thrilled to host the official launch of Charlie Jeffries’s new book, Teenage Dreams: Girlhood Sexualities in the US Culture Wars (Rutgers University Press, 2022). Jeffries will be joined by SHaME’s Prof Joanna Bourke for a short reading from the book and a Q+A discussion.

SHaME is thrilled to announce the official book launch of author, activist, survivor and academic Winnie M Li’s second novel, ‘Complicit’ (Orion). Winnie will be joined in conversation by host Prof Joanna Bourke and guests Marai Larasi, Prof Liz Kelly, Rowena Chiu, and Dr Katherine Angel.

SHaME is thrilled to announce the official book launch of Associate Prof Sameena Mulla and Associate Prof Heather Hlavka’s ‘Bodies in Evidence: Race, Gender, and Science in Sexual Assault Adjudication’ (New York University Press). Heather and Sameena will be joined in conversation by host Prof Joanna Bourke and guests Assistant Prof April Petillo, Dr Gethin Rees, and Prof M Gabriela Torres.
